Swimming Opens Season on Day One of Dualapalooza

In Brief: Junior Arielle Hayon led the Owls on the opening day of the Dualapalooza against Houston and Denver, winning three events (one individual, two relays) as Rice swimmers placed first in six events at the Rice Competition Pool on Friday. Rice sits in second place in the team competition with 432 points, trailing Houston (455) and leading Denver (316).
The Details: The Owls opened the meet with wins in both the 400-yard medley (Hayon, senior Imogen Meers, sophomore Lily Cramer and freshman Siiri Einio - 3:44.68) and 100-yard freestyle relays (Hayon, junior Morgan Bartley and freshmen Catherine Eland and Neta Ussishkin - 43.64). Hayon also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.41. Rice then swept the top three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle as sophomore Ella Dyson won the event with a time of 10:01.81. Junior Amelia Kane and graduate senior Shannon Campbell placed second and third, respectively, with time of 10:04.52 and 10:05.91. Meers and Campbell became the next Owls to win multiple events on the day, as Meers won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.65 and Campbell won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.17.
Up Next: Competition continues with session two on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (CT). The competition is set to conclude with session three starting at 1:30 p.m. (CT).
