HOUSTON - Fresh off their second straight C-USA West Division crown and the team's appearance in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament, the Rice Owls volleyball team begins their fall schedule on Saturday when they welcome in the No. 2 ranked Texas Longhorns for a 1 p.m. first serve at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Owls, who are receiving 50 votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, return four starters and 10 letterwinners from last season's team that went 20-7 overall. Fifth-year seniors Carly Graham and Anota Adekunle, along with senior Ellie Bichelmeyer, all earned Conference USA All-Conference honors last season with Graham winning her second-straight C-USA Setter of the Year award.
The Owls have gone 2-2 in their last four meetings with the Longhorns and Saturday will represent a rematch of the two teams' battle in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament last season in Austin.
Rice and Texas will play five sets on Saturday, regardless of outcome.
PROMOTIONS: Saturday's theme will be "Rice Fight Never Dies!" with $5 group tickets and $7 general admission. Tickets can be bought online at RiceOwls.com. Prior to the match the Owls will be honored with a banner presentation to recognize last year's appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The first 200 fans will receive a Right Fight/Rice Point sign while the most-spirited student will win a pride pack. There will also be post-match autographs from the Owls and fans will have a chance to win a team signed volleyball.
