HOUSTON — Rice golf coach Justin Emil announced the release of the Owls 2022-23 schedule Tuesday afternoon. The Owls will compete in 11 tournaments, including five in the state of Texas.
"Our schedule this year is solid," said Emil. "The Owls get a chance to face teams in tournaments across the country and even internationally. I can't wait to get to work preparing for our first event at Squire Creek. It's going to be a big year for the team."
For the second straight year, Rice will open the season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, Sept. 11-13 in Choudrant, La., and hosted by Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech.
Three weeks later, the Owls will travel to Boulder, Colo., for the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational (Oct. 3-4), hosted by Colorado. It is Rice's first trip to Colorado since participating in the 2018-19 Ram Masters Invitational.
Rice wastes no time getting back on the course when it participates in the Tempest Collegiate, Oct. 9-11 and co-hosted by South Alabama and Texas State in Gladewater, Texas.
The Owls close the fall slate Oct. 24-25, when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., for the ORU Invitational, hosted by Oral Roberts.
For the second consecutive season, the spring campaign begins in Laredo, Texas with the legendary Border Olympics, Feb. 13-14. A week later, Rice co-hosts the first of three tournaments when it teams with Houston and Sam Houston for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, Feb. 20-21.
Rice opens March by traveling to Cabo, Mexico for one of the premier college golf events on the calendar, the Cabo Collegiate (Mar. 5-7). The Owls then begin a stretch of three tournaments in four weeks, starting by co-hosting, along with Houston, the All-American Intercollegiate, Mar. 20-21, in Humble at the Golf Club of Texas.
A week later, Rice travels to Gulf Shores, Ala., for the Craft Farms Intercollegiate (Mar. 26-28), the second straight year they will participate in the tournament. The Owls close out the stretch when, for the first time, Rice and Sam Houston will co-host the Walden Invitational (Apr. 3-4) at Walden at Lake Conroe in Conroe, Texas.
The Conference USA Championship will take place in Texarkana, Ark., for the 12th time overall, Apr. 24-27.
NCAA Regionals take place May 15-17 at campus sites, with Arizona State hosting the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 26-31.
The Owls return five members from last year's team, including 2022 C-USA Freshman of the Year Raghav Chugh.
