
Sarkar Repeats as C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year for Men's Tennis

One of seven Owls honored
Sumit Sarkar was one of a league-leading seven Rice student-athletes who were recognized for being named their respective sport's Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Monday.
Sarkar is the first repeat selection from Rice in men's tennis, posting a 3.44 GPA while majoring in Statistics. He posted a 5-6 mark in singles (4-3 at the second line) and a 7-9 mark in doubles (all at the first line) in 2022 and combined with Dylan Heap to defeat Charlotte's 78th ranked team at the first line. He was a five-time first team All C-USA selection in his career as well as a two-time NCAA qualifier and the 2019 Conference USA Player of the Year.
Voted on by C-USA's 14 FARs (Faculty Athletics Representatives), the awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement, and service.
