
Volleyball Announces 2022 Fall Schedule

HOUSTON – The defending Conference USA West Division champion Rice Owls volleyball team announced their 2022 Fall schedule on Monday, a slate that includes a total of 10 teams that finished last season in the Top-100 in RPI and eight NCAA Tournament qualifiers.
Rice, who finished last season 20-7 and advanced to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament, will face a total of four teams who finished last year ranked in the AVCA Top-25 and seven squads who completed their seasons with 20-plus victories.
Following a home exhibition match against the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 20, the Owls will open the regular season at the LSU Tiger Classic, facing crosstown rival Houston in the opener on Aug. 26 followed by Samford later that day. Rice will close out the tournament against host LSU on Aug. 27.
Rice makes an appearance in the Pacific Northwest Sept. 2-3 when they travel to Eugene, Oregon to face UC Davis and host Oregon. The Ducks finished last season ranked No. 24 after a 22-9 campaign, including a 3-1 victory over the Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Following a home midweek match with McNeese on Sept. 6, the Owls will host the first of two tournaments with the Adidas Invitational Sept. 9-11 in which Rice will take on Brown, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Texas Tech. All three teams participated in last season's NCAA Tournament.
Rice welcomes in Kansas State and Creighton Sept. 16-18 as part of the Adidas Invitational II, two teams that also appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament. Creighton finished the season ranked No. 22 after going 31-4 and advancing to the Round of 32.
Rice will conclude their non-conference portion of their schedule with a showdown against last season's Sweet 16 participant Baylor on Oct. 12. The Bears closed out 2021 ranked No. 10 in the country with a 22-6 record.
The Owls will face 10 members of Conference USA with a total of four home/home series. Within league play the Owls will host UTSA (Sept. 23), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 2), Charlotte (Oct. 16), FIU (Oct. 21), UTEP (Oct. 30), North Texas (Nov. 4), and Louisiana Tech (Nov. 6).
Rice will travel to Louisiana Tech (Sept. 25), North Texas (Sept. 30), UTEP (Oct. 8), UAB (Oct. 14), UTSA (Oct. 28), WKU (Nov. 10), and Middle Tennessee (Nov. 12).
This year's C-USA Championship will be held in Bowling Green, Ky. (hosted by WKU) and run Nov. 18-20.
