HOUSTON — Rice men's golf coach Justin Emil has announced the addition of graduate transfer Jay Kirchdorfer for the 2022-23 season.
Kirchdorfer comes to South Main after spending the last four years at Kentucky. This year, he saw action in seven events, generating a 75.28 stroke average to help the Wildcats to the NCAA Columbus Regional where he tied for 23rd-place, carding a career-best 70 in the second round. He had five rounds of par or better this year.
In his career, the Louisville, Ky., native had a 74.89 stroke average in 28 rounds, including seven rounds of par or better. He also earned Academic All-SEC honors as a junior. His best finish came at the 2019 Steelwood Collegiate Invitational where he tied for 19th-place.
"I'm really excited to have Jay join us for this coming season," said Emil. "He's a bright young man, brings a lot of experience and has a solid game that will definitely help our team. His game is trending nicely after a solid finish at this year's NCAA Regional Tournament and a tie for 2nd at the Kentucky State Amateur. It's a win for both Jay and us in that he will get an amazing Masters of Business degree and help vault our team toward conference championships and postseason golf."
