HOUSTON – Rice volleyball head coach Genny Volpe announced on Tuesday (May 24) the addition of Sarah Kuehn to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Kuehn comes to Rice after spending last year as an assistant coach for the St. Mary's volleyball team, compiling an overall record of 14-11.
"We are thrilled to add Sarah to our coaching staff," Volpe said. "From the minute you meet Sarah you can feel her incredible energy and positivity. She has diverse experiences both as a player and a coach that we believe will add value to our program. Her ability to relate to players and recruits will no doubt prove to be a strong addition our coaching staff. We couldn't be happier that she is joining us."
A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Kuehn began her coaching career as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater, Northern Michigan. While on the Wildcats' staff, the team won both the regular season and conference tournament titles in the GLIAC.
"I am thrilled to be joining the Rice Volleyball family," said Kuehn. "It is evident that this team is coached by an outstanding staff, led by Coach Volpe, and I cannot wait to learn from them all. The team's success speaks for itself, which makes me excited to work with these dedicated student athletes. I am looking forward to being a positive addition to the program and bringing my enthusiasm into the gym. Go Owls!"
Before moving to the coaching chairs, Kuehn was a three-year standout at Northern Michigan, finishing her career ranked seventh all-time with 352 total blocks. She amassed 54 solo blocks and 298 block assists while adding 774 kills. Kuehn was named the team's Most Valuable Player after the 2018 season along with earning All-GLIAC Second Team honors after averaging 1.03 blocks per set to finish third in the league. She earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team honors in her first season at NMU and was named the team's Newcomer of the Year.
Kuehn began her collegiate career at Minnesota State University and graduated from De Pere High School where she earned all-conference recognition while playing volleyball, basketball, softball, and track and field.
