Budin and Valenty Honored by C-USA

Men's and Women's All-Academic Teams
Maria Budin and AJ Valenty are among 12 student-athletes recognized on Thursday by Conference USA as members of its Men's and Women's Tennis All-Academic Teams Rice is one of three schools to place two student-athletes on the teams, joining Florida Atlantic and UTSA.
Budin, who is currently ranked 20th in the nation in doubles with Diae El Jardi, is a three-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and carries a 3.91 GPA while majoring in Psychology. She and El Jardi are 11-4 in doubles and she is tied for the team lead 12 wins in singles (12-3) and is tied for second with three match clinch points.
Valenty is a doubles specialist who has a combined record of 12-12 between the fall and spring seasons. He is a two-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and has a 3.67 GPA in Computer Science.
Both Budin and Valenty will close out their 2022 regular season schedules on the road Saturday vs. SMU. Valenty and the Rice men's team will face the Mustangs at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the annual Turpin Cup match while Budin and the 55th ranked Rice women's team will face the 43rd ranked Mustangs at 2 p.m. Both matches will be carried on ESPN+.
