Owls Set for Phill Hansel Invitational

Three-day competition opens Thursday
In Brief: Seth Huston's Rice Owls open three days of competition on Thursday at the Phill Hansel Invitational at the University of Houston's CRWC Natatorium. The annual event honors longtime UH head swimming coach Phill Hansel.
The Details: Rice will be one of eight teams entered in the three-day event which is scheduled in a format similar to the C-USA Championships which will be held at the end of February. Preliminaries will be held at 10 a.m. each day, with finals set for 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 4 p.m. on Saturday. There is no charge to attend the competition.
The Lineup: In addition to the Owls and the host Houston Cougars, the event will also feature swimmers from Air Force, New Mexico, North Texas, and Tulane.
Team Scoring: There will be five championship-seeded heats for each event each evening with the top three heats scored to determine the team champion.

Schedule of events:
Thursday: 200 Free Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, 400 Medley Relay
Friday: 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 800 Freestyle Relay
Saturday: 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 400 Freestyle Relay
Up Next: The Owls return to dual competition on December 3 when they travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M.
