HOUSTON — After earning a victory in its only match of the week, winning its fifth straight match to start Conference USA play, Rice Soccer midfielder Delaney Schultz and goalkeeper Bella Killgore took home weekly honors.
The duo helped lead the Owls to a 2-0 victory over North Texas. Schultz was named to the CollegeSoccerNews National Team of the Week while earning C-USA Offensive Player of the Week. Killgore was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week.
Schultz accounted for both goals in the victory. After both teams had chances, she opened the scoring in the 26th minute, heading a cross into the left corner of the net. She added her second goal of the match in the 72nd minute, firing a shot into the top center of the net as the Owls defeated UNT for the first time since 2014. It was her second brace of the year and the fourth of her career. With her four points, she now has 73 in her career, moving her into a tie for second-place in Rice history with Holly Hargreaves (2012-15) for career points. It is her second career Offensive Player of the Week award.
Killgore faced 18 shots in the victory, making a season-high 11 saves in recording her fourth blanking of the season. It also tied the fifth-most saves in school history. The victory was the 42nd of her career, tying her with Amy Czyz for the most in Rice history. Her 11 saves also give her 351 for her career, tying UAB's Kelsey Daugherty (2015-18) for the fifth-most in Conference USA history. It is her second Goalkeeper of the Week honor this year and the sixth of her career.
