Rice Athletics Partners with Katz Coffee

Owls to release three custom blends available on campus and in stores
HOUSTON – Rice Athletics is proud to announce a new partnership with Katz Coffee to create a Rice Owls-branded coffee featuring three different blends.
Owl Blend (a medium roast), South Main Mocha (a flavored light roast) and Twilight Blend (a dark roast) will be added to the Katz Coffee catalog as of Aug. 20. Through this partnership, Rice Athletics plans to continue growing the Owls' brand through consumable items and expanding their outreach in the community of Houston, the state of Texas and beyond.
"Coffee is one of those things that everyone loves and to steal a mantra from our friend Avi Katz – it's the one thing that touches more humans in the world than anything else behind oxygen and water," Rice associate athletic director for external relations David Pillen said. "We hope that our coffee partnership with Katz continues to enable us to impact others and give back to those in our community."
"It's an honor to have a collaboration on coffee with Rice Athletics that benefits students in our community," said Avi Katz, owner and operator of Katz Coffee. "Katz Coffee and Rice University have a long history and I am looking forward to adding another chapter to this story. Thank you for supporting local growth together."
Since 2003, Katz Coffee has been served in Houston by the city's most highly-acclaimed and discriminating chefs, restaurateurs and coffeehouse owners. Katz specializes in small-batch, custom roasting while providing the finest coffee from farmers around the globe, sourcing only the highest quality "green" beans.
"Coffeehouse is honored to have helped with coffee tasting the new Katz & Rice coffee blends and providing feedback," said Miguel Luna, general manager of Rice Coffeehouse. "We look forward to incorporating these blends into Coffeehouse for all students, staff, and Rice visitors to enjoy as the school year starts."
The coffee will be made available through the Rice Coffeehouse, Rice Dining, Katz's wholesale coffee program, online at KatzCoffee.com and soon in local stores.
"We have been a partner of Katz coffee for many years and continue to support local businesses," said the Rice Housing & Dining team. "It was refreshing to work with Athletics and the students to create a new custom medium-roasted blend that will be available in all the college serveries."
A portion of all proceeds are donated back to the Rice Athletics Scholarship Fund to benefit and support Rice Owls students in their pursuit to become champions at Rice and beyond.
