HOUSTON, Texas — Rice golf coach Justin Emil has announced the addition of Daniel Jansen as Assistant Coach, announced Monday morning.
"I'm excited to welcome Daniel and his wife, Briana, to our program and the Owl Golf family," said Emil. "We are at a turning point for our program and Daniel is someone I believe can help us achieve some major milestones. His playing career, coaching experience and education are all top notch. I can't wait to work with him to help our team reach their full potential."
Jansen spent the last two years as the Men's and Women's Golf Assistant Coach at Houston Baptist.
Last year, he helped both teams to top four finishes at the Southland Conference Tournament, with the men's fourth-place finish being their best ever. He helped Marcelo Trevino earn Third Team All-Southland and Academic All-Conference.
On the women's side, Elise Parel captured her first career tournament title at the UTA Invitational while being named All-Southland First Team. She was also named, along with Sara Zrnikova, to the Academic All-Conference Team.
During the shortened 2019-20 season, the women claimed the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational title and Zrnikova was named the Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year, while Alisa Chong and Tiffany Nguyen and Grace Cassity joined her on the All-Academic Team. Four women were named WGCA All-Amercian Scholars. On the men's side, Lucas Coapman was named to the Southland All-Academic Team, while Nicko Martinez and Mathew Chairuangdej were named GCAA Early Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars. Both programs earned NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards.
Prior to joining HBU, Jansen was the assistant men's and women's golf coach at Bethune-Cookman, helping each team capture the PGA Works Collegiate Championship in 2019. He also served as the graduate assistant for the women's golf program at South Alabama for two seasons.
Jansen spent two years at Faulkner University, where he was named an NAIA All-American and the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore before transferring to South Alabama. During his four-year collegiate career, he captured five individual tournament titles and earned academic honors each season.
A native of Kristiansand, Norway, Jansen has a bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in exercise science from South Alabama.
