Lennon, Graham, and Adekunle receive recognition
HOUSTON - The No. 23 ranked Rice University volleyball team continued to receive recognition from their stellar 2020-21 season as a trio of Owls were recognized by VolleyballMag.com as All-Americans.
Nicole Lennon (Second Team), Carly Graham (Honorable Mention), and Anota Adekunle (Honoroable Mention) all received superlatives from the organization.
Lennon, who was named an AVCA Third Team All-American last week, received her second VolleyballMag.com Second Team honor in as many seasons. The two-time C-USA Player of the Year ranks second among all active NCAA Division I players in both career kills (1,742) and total attacks (4,581). This season Lennon ranked second in C-USA in total points (387.5-16th in NCAA), points per set (5.03-19th in NCAA), total kills (329-22nd in NCAA), kills per set (4.27-30th in NCAA), total attacks (845-30th in NCAA) and attacks per set (10.97).
Graham, from Spring, Texas, was named the C-USA Setter of the Year in her first full season as the team's primary setter and was named to the Southwest Region Team along with Lennon and Adekunle. She orchestrated a Rice offense that ranked 20th in the NCAA in hitting percentage (.268) and 27th in kills per set (13.83). Graham ranked second in C-USA in assists per set (10.39) and total assists (800-24th in NCAA) while recording 10 double-doubles.
Adekunle, a native of Humble, Texas, was a C-USA First Teamer for a second straight season and ranks fourth among all active players in the NCAA in career hitting percentage (.407). Adekunle led all C-USA players and ranks fourth in the NCAA this season in hitting percentage (.463) as she hit .300 or better in 14 of 17 matches.
The Owls (16-5, 12-0) won the C-USA West division title and earned an NCAA Tournament at-large bid for a second straight season. It marked the first time in program history that the Owls finished a conference season undefeated.
