Owls Return to Competition with Phill Hansel Invitational

In Brief: Rice returns to the competition pool on Thursday for the first day of the Phill Hansel Invitational at the University of Houston's Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium. The annual event, which honors longtime UH head swimming coach Phill Hansel, returns after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The Details: Rice will be one of eight teams entered in the three-day event which is scheduled in a format similar to the C-USA Championships which will be held at the end of February. Preliminaries will be held at 10 a.m. each day, with finals set for 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday. There is no charge to attend the competition.
The Lineup: In addition to the Owls and the host Houston Cougars, the event will also feature swimmers from Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, Tulane and Washington State.

The Schedule:
Thursday: 200 Freestyle Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle. 400 Medley Relay
Friday: 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 800 Freestyle Relay
Saturday: 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly ,400 Freestyle Relay
Up Next: Rice will wrap up the fall competition schedule on December 4 at 12 p.m. when they host Texas A&M in a dual meet at the Rice Competition Pool.
