Golf Signs Davis Byrd for 2022-23

HOUSTON — Rice men's golf coach Justin Emil has announced the signing of Davis Byrd (Houston, Texas) to a national letter of intent for the 2022-23 school year, Thursday afternoon.
Byrd, who played his prep golf at Klein Cain High School, was named All-State last year by the Texas Association of Golf Coaches. He finished third out of 52 golfers at the 2021 District 15-6A Tournament. On the Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf Tour, he won the US Sports Camps Prestige Tour Open in April, firing rounds of 71-68/139 to earn a seven stroke victory. He also took third at the Spring Break Classic with rounds of 70-67.
During the 2019-20 season, he was named Class 6A All-District by the TAGC. He also won the Gobble Classic while earning four other top five finishes, including a tie for second-place at the STPGA's Junior Tour at Raveneaux Country Club.
"I am really pumped to have a great local player like Davis join us next fall," said Emil. "He's an extremely hard working young man both on and off the golf course. Davis will be a great addition to our program and to Rice University."
