HOUSTON, Texas — Freshman golfer Raghav Chugh was named Conference USA Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
It is his first career Golfer of the Week honor and Rice's first since 2020. It is also the first by a freshman since Thomas Bockholt III in 2019.
Chugh had the best tournament of his young career, tying for third-place at the Bentwater Intercollegiate. He opened the tournament with his first career round in the 60's firing a 69. He followed that up with his second straight round under par, carding a 70. Chugh closed the tournament with a 72 to finish two-under par, one of just six golfers to finish under par.
The New Dehli, India native recorded 11 birdies during the three-day event while becoming the first Rice freshman to earn a top-three finish since Alex Levy in 2013.
