Owls Capture Four Events On Day One of Fall Splash

Day One Results
In Brief: Arielle Hayon, Lauren McDougall and Zoe Spitz picked up event wins and Becca Evans capped the day with a thrilling race to the wall to give Rice a win in the final relay to highlight action on Day One of the 2021 Fall Splash at the Rice Competition Pool. After the first nine events, Houston holds a 95-72 lead over the Owls.
The Details: After a thunderstorm delayed racing for an hour, the Cougars stormed out to the early lead by taking the 400 medley relay and the 400 IM. A transfer from Iowa, McDougall made her Rice debut a success by sprinting to a win in the 100 freestyle. Spitz followed with a win in the 200 backstroke and was followed by Hayon and the freshman picked up her first collegiate victory in the 100 fly. In a stirring final race of the day, Rice and Houston traded the lead through the first three legs of the 200 freestyle relay, but Evans surge in the last 25 to out-touch Houston's Emma Wright and end the day on a winning note.
