Outstanding teachers at more than a dozen schools in the Houston area have been recognized as Teachers of The Year and will receive gift cards for the holidays thanks to a partnership between Rice Athletics and the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFP). A total of $5,000 worth of gift cards from Michael's and Donors Choose will be awarded to deserving teachers in recognition of their impact on their students, their schools and their communities.
Among the recipients is Andrea Landry of Blackshear Elementary. Last week, Rice, The Ion and the CFP Foundation awarded Landry a $1,000 Donors Choose gift card, the latest development in a longstanding relationship between the university and Blackshear. Rice's Office of Multicultural Community Relations coordinates academic enrichment programs for the school and The Ion innovation district partners with Houston-based Brighter Bites for a nutrition program at Blackshear Elementary.
Additionally, the premiere partnership between Rice and the CFP Foundation enabled the Owls to award a $1,000 Michael's gift card in September to Takara Badrock at Ross Sterling Middle School as part of the Big Day for Teachers.
