HOUSTON – The back-to-back Conference USA champion Rice Owls women's basketball team announced their 2020-21 schedule on Friday.
The Owls will play a total of 24 games, which includes 12 contests at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice tips off the season at home versus Houston Baptist on Nov. 25 before traveling to Little Rock on Nov. 28.
Following a road tilt at UT-Arlington on Dec. 2, the Owls will host crosstown foe Texas Southern on Dec. 11 and the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns on Dec. 16 before wrapping up the non-conference season on Dec. 20 at Texas A&M in College Station.
C-USA adjusted this season's conference format to a new 18-game regular season format that focuses on the health and safety of the student-athletes. Schools will play two games per visit at four select C-USA schools and host four select teams for a two-game series, while playing a rival opponent one time home and away.
The goal was to reduce the amount of travel during conference play, with the aim of minimizing the risks associated with COVID-19. Additionally, the final week of the regular season may be utilized to reschedule any postponed games.
Rice opens the conference season on Jan.1/Jan. 2 with a pair of games at UTSA. The remaining conference opponents includes UTEP (Home, Jan. 8/9), Old Dominion (Road, Jan. 15/16), UAB (Home, Jan. 22/23), North Texas (Away/Home, Jan. 28/30), Southern Miss (Road, Feb. 5/6), WKU (Home, Feb. 12/13), Marshall (Road, Feb. 19/20), and Louisiana Tech (Home, Feb. 26/27).
The C-USA Championship format will return to its familiar 12-team field that it has utilized for the past several seasons. The top-12 regular season finishes in conference play will qualify for the Championship, which will be held March 10-13 in Frisco, Texas.
