On the day the Rice seniors were honored at the official final home event of their careers, their Owl teammates sent them out on top with a convincing victory over a longtime state rival. Rice won eight of the meet's 14 events and Limberg led 1-2-3-4 sweeps in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. Cano-Minarro led a 1-2-3 Rice finish of the 200-freestyle (1:51.49), won the 100-free (51.67) and then swam the anchor leg of the Owls' winning sprint relay (1:33.70). Rice is now 6-1 in seven dual meets this season.
In order to avoid the inclement weather in Houston this weekend, the venue for Rice's home mees vs. SMU (Saturday) and North Texas (Jan. 10) was changed from the Owls' Competition Pool to the new Lamar H.S. Natatorium. No matter the site of the meet the Owl senior class of Harper Gillentine, Kate Nezelek, Sarah Nowaski and Claire Therien receicved a warm reception from their teamamtes, coaches and fans.
A video recap from Rice head coach Seth Huston will be published later.
