Rice Freshman Wins Silver Medal, Reaches Event Finals Four Times

Rice true freshman Ahalya Lettenberger has concluded a memorable medal-winning week in London representing the United States, and the Owls, at the 2019 World Para Swimming Allianz Championships from Sept. 9-15.

On Sept. 10 (Tues.) Lettenberger won the Silver Medal in the 400-meter Freestyle (S7) with a time of 5:15.90. The Rice rookie from the Chicago area swam in a total of five events and reached the championship final (the medal round) a total of four times. In addition to finishing second in the 400-m freestyle, she was also fourth in the 200-individual medley, fifth in the 100-freestyle, eighth in the 100-backstroke and tenth in the 100-breaststroke (to close out the international meet on Sunday).

The Rice Owls swim team is next in action at its annual home Invitational on October 11-12. Joining Rice in this year's five-team Invitational field are Georgia Tech, Incarnate Word, the University of Houston and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
