Lettenberger Wins Silver Medal In London

Rice Rookie Competes This Week At World Para Swimming Championships
LONDON, England – Rice true freshman Ahalya Lettenberger won the silver medal for her second place finish in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships Tuesday evening (Sept. 10) in London, England.
Lettenberger was part of a 1-2 finish for the United States in the women's 400-meter freestyle S7. The Rice rookie qualified second in morning prelims with a time of 5:18.70 then improved on that mark in the event finals to win the silver medal with a time of 5:15.90. McKenzie Coan of Team USA won the gold medal (5:09.58) and Nora Meister of Switzerland won the bronze (5:18.94).
Lettenberger reached the medal stand in the first of her five events this week at the annual World Para Swim Championships. The Chicago area native is scheduled to compete in the 100-m backstroke on Thursday, the 200-m individual medley on Friday, the 100-m freestyle on Saturday and the 100-m breaststroke to close out the meet on Sunday.
