Coaches' Association Recognizes Rice's Academic Success
The CSCAA selected individual Scholar All-America honorees from NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA institutions that maintained at least a 3.50 grade point average and participated in their respective national Swimming and Diving Championships. Schillinger represented Rice in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events at the NCAA Championships each of the past three seasons. The Orinda, Calif., native maintained a 3.857 grade point average pursuing a double-major in Kinesiology and Psychology.
Swimmers with a 3.50 GPA and achieved the provisional "B" standard in an event were designated as CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-America. The coaches organization tabbed four Owls as Honorable Mention selections: Lindsay Mathys, Ellery Parish, Claire Therien and Rabea Tzenetos.
Last June the CSCAA selected Rice as a 2019 Scholar All-American Team with a 3.56 grade point average that is among the Top 50 in the nation. Not only did a total from 23 student-athletes on Rice's 2018-2019 roster combine to post a 3.56 GPA, the Owls finished second in both the Conference USA Championship meet and the CSCAA National Invitational (often called the `Swimming NIT'). Rice swimming is under the direction of head coach Seth Huston, who recently completed his 17th year at the helm of the program.
