Roberts and Hanger Join Owl Club Staff

New Assistant Directors for R Association, Donor Relations and Special Events
Mike Melendez , Rice Athletics' new Senior Associate AD and Chief Development Officer, has announced the addition of Will Roberts and Laura Hanger to the Owl Club staff. Roberts is the new Assistant Director – R Association and Hanger is the new Assistant Director –Donor Relations & Special Events.
William Roberts '17 returns to South Main after recent stints with FC Dallas and Peak Sports MGMT. In his role, William will spearhead all engagement efforts with former Rice letter winners. During his time at FC Dallas, William was a part of the Ticket Sales staff that hosted events around the greater DFW area for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Following his tenure in MLS, William joined the staff of Peak Sports MGMT where he was a Senior Account Executive of Corporate Partnerships at West Texas A&M University.
Roberts was a four-year letterman at Rice, competing in the 1500 meters and was named both a captain and the Jeff Lewis Award Winner for MVP of the Men's Indoor Track and Field Team during his senior season. His two brothers, Travis Roberts '14 and Jesse Roberts '20 also lettered in track at Rice.
Hanger will lead all stewardship efforts, donor events, and premium experiences for Rice Athletics. She brings more than seven years of experience in sponsorship, sales, service, community relations, fundraising, and special events. Her most notable experiences include a recent stint with the Houston Dynamo, and prior to that, five years with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. She earned her BA from Abilene Christian University.
Melendez assumed his new position in late August after originally joining the Owl Club staff in September of 2018 as the Owls' Assistant Athletic Director – Development. He came to Rice after three years as a Senior Account Executive with Seminole IMG Sports Marketing at Florida State University. He began his career in athletic development at Rutgers University, beginning as an intern in 2011 to the Associate Director of Athletic Development-Major Gifts & Premium Seating in 2014.
Roberts and Hanger join the Owls development team that also includes Shu Muthyala, Associate AD- Annual Giving; Brandon Scherling, Associate Director – Annual Giving; Jennelle Shaw, Assistant Director-Annual Giving and Trevor Cobb, External Relations Assistant.
