Strong Showing From Owls' Sophomore Sprinter
Over the weekend Evans won three individual events to help the Owls sweep three-straight dual meets in Miami, including wins over defending C-USA champion FIU, defending Summit League champion Denver, and American Athletic Conference power Tulane. On Oct. 18 Evans won the 50-yard freestyle vs. Denver with a time of 23.57 that is the fastest mark in C-USA so far this season. The Pittsford, N.Y., native also won the 50-backstroke vs. Denver (26.54) and the 50-free against Tulane on Oct. 20 with a time of 24.16. She swam the anchor leg of three winning Rice relays, including the 200-medley relay against FIU that posted C-USA's fastest time of the season (1:44.30). Evans was also the anchor Owls 200-free relay that beat FIU (1:34.67) and on the winning 100-free relay vs. Denver (43.99). She swam the lead leg of the Owls' winning 100-medley that recorded a time of 48.64 to beat Tulane.
This is the first in Evans' collegiate career to be named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week, and it is back-to-back league honors for the Owls. Rice's Brittany Bui was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 16.
