Owls Are Next In Action Sunday Night At SEC Foe Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Rice and Samford soccer game, originally slated for Friday (Aug. 31) has been canceled due to lightning in the Birmingham area.

There is no official result. The Owls' season record holds at 1-2-0.

The score was Samford 1, Rice 0 when the teams were ordered off the field in the game's 27th minute. Cancellation of the match followed after a series of similar delays where each lightning strike extended the waiting period an additional 30 minutes. As per NCAA rules a match must reach the 70th minute to be considered for an official result.

The Owls still have a road game this weekend with a Sunday match at SEC foe Alabama. Start time vs. the Crimson Tide is set for 7 pm in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
