2018-19 Golf Schedule
HOUSTON—Rice golf coach Justin Emil announced the release of the Owls 2018-19 schedule Thursday morning. The Owls will compete in 11 tournaments, including five in the state of Texas.
"I'm excited to announce our schedule for the upcoming season," said Emil. "We made a few changes from some events that have been on our schedule for a long time, but I think these changes will be a great opportunity for our team. Both of our home events are now in the spring. It's great to have tournaments at home so that we can take advantage of not having to travel and play on familiar turf. We get to go to some amazing places throughout the year playing in tournaments across the country. It's great to be a Rice Owl golfer!"
Rice will begin the season at the Lone Star Invitational, played Sept. 10-11 in San Antonio. The tournament will be hosted by Conference USA foe UTSA. Last year, the Owls finished in 10th-place.
The following week, the Owls will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., for the Ram Masters Invitational (Sept. 17-19), hosted by Colorado State. It is the second time in three years that Rice will participate in the tournament, finishing sixth in 2016.
Rice will then play in two straight tournaments for the first time, beginning with the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sept. 23-25 in Dallas and hosted by SMU. Two weeks later (Oct. 6-8), they travel to Carrollton to participate in the Westheimer Invitational, hosted by North Texas.
The Owls close the fall slate Oct. 27-28, when they travel to Loxley, Ala., for their third straight visit to the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, hosted by South Alabama.
The spring campaign begins with three tournaments in three weeks, starting Feb. 17-19 at the All-American Intercollegiate. Rice co-hosts the event with Houston, which will be played in Humble, Texas at the Golf Club of Houston. This will be the fourth straight year that the Owls will participate in the event and the 41st time overall.
The squad then travels to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics, played Feb. 25-26 and hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. Rice will be playing in the event for the second straight year.
A week later, Rice travels to Cabo, Mexico for one of the premier college golf events on the calendar, the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate (Mar. 3-5).
After a taking a week off, Rice will make its first appearance at the Lake Charles Invitational, Mar. 18-19 and played at the Golden Nugget Golf Club in Lake Charles, La..
Rice closes the regular season when it teams with Houston and Sam Houston State to co-host the Bayou City Collegiate Championship at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Apr. 15-16, as the tournament moves to the spring this year. It is the seventh straight season that they will co-host the event. The Conference USA Championship will take place in Texarkana, Ark., for the fifth consecutive year and the eighth time overall, Apr. 22-25.
NCAA Regionals take place May 13-15 at campus sites, with Arkansas hosting the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark., May 24-29.
The Owls return five members from last year's team that advanced to the Match Play Semifinals of the Conference USA Championships.
