HOUSTON — Rice men's golf coach Justin Emil has announced the signings of Thomas Bockholt III (Austin, Texas) and Forrest Park (Irving, Texas) to national letters of intent for the 2019-20 school year, Tuesday morning.
Bockholt III, from Westlake High School, led the Chaps to back-to-back state titles while leading the team with a 71.1 stroke average. He is three-time First Team All-District and Academic All-District and two-time First Team All-Region. He is also a three-time Academic All-Region member.
Bockholt III was named the Player of the Year last year on the Legends Golf Tour, earning a pair of wins and eight top five finishes. He also earned three top 10 finishes on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Tour and competed in the Texas State Amateur Championship.
"I'm excited to announce that Austin Westlake standout, Thomas Bockholt, signed with us for the 2019-2020 season," said Emil. Thomas is an exceptional player who has outstanding character, work ethic and competitive drive. He's shown that he is a top player in our state and across the country. Thomas is also an excellent student and a perfect fit for Rice. I have no doubt that he will thrive here and make a big impact on our team."
Park played at the Jesuit Preparatory School of Dallas, helping the Rangers to back-to-back state qualifiers. He is a three-time team Most Valuable Player, leading the team last year with a 72.1 scoring average. He was twice named First Team All-District and All-Region.
Park took home medalist honors at the 2018 District Tournament and the Dragon Fall Cup and the 2018 High School Regionals and the 2017 The Classic. He's also earned eight top 20 finishes on the AJGA Tour.
Added Emil, "I'd like to welcome Forrest Park to the Rice Golf Family. Forrest joins us with an excellent record on the course and in the classroom. He has played well on both the local and national golf scenes. I can't wait to see what Forrest can do at this level. I'm proud to sign such a fine young man.
