PROVO, Utah — Rice was held to just 36.4% in the second half, as the Owls fell to BYU, 105-78, in its final game of the Men Against Breast Cancer Cougar Cup, Wednesday night.
What Scott Pera Had to Say
"I thought we came in with a good game-plan. We were prepared (and) our guys were locked in. They expected to play well. BYU, obviously, shot the ball terrific in the first half to dig a deep hole. We fought back early in the second half. We had some opportunities to cut it down to six. But we missed them and they took advantage of our mistakes. They played a very good game. They're a very good team."
The Story
The teams traded baskets to open the game. Robert Martin hit a three to give Rice its first lead, 10-9, 5:28 into the game. Rice stretched its lead out to 19-16, but the Cougars used a 9-0 run in less than two minutes to take a 25-19 lead midway through the first half. Rice pulled to within five points. However, BYU was able to stretch its lead to 14 points before heading into halftime with a 54-43 lead.
The Turning Point
Rice opened the second half scoring seven of the first 11 points. After a BYU basket, Martin made a layup to get Rice within eight points. The Owls had a chance to pull to within six points, but Chris Mullins' layup bounced out and BYU followed with a 12-0 run to take a 20-point lead. Rice got no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.

Ako Adams led Rice with 17 points. Robert Martin had 12 points and Drew Peterson added 11. Jack Williams grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
