13 Events Over Two More Sessions Set For Saturday
Through the first five events Rice leads the four-team standings with a total of 329 points. Crosstown foe Houston is second with 243 points, followed by Air Force (194 points) and Incarnate Word (171 points).
Parish won the 500-freestyle over a field of 34 entries with a time of 4:59.04. The sophomore from San Antonio then returned to swim the second leg of Rice's winning 800-freestyle relay. The Owl foursome of Parish, Lindsay Mathys, Marta Cano-Minarro and Hanna Huston posted a time of 7:34.24 that is fastest mark by an Owl team in the event at home in the Competition Pool.
The Rice team of Rabea Tzenetos, Marie-Claire Schillinger, Brittany Bui and Cano-Minarro won the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:48.19. Owl sophomore Hannah Sumbera, sidelined most of last season with an injury, was sound and solid leading a 1-2-3-4 Rice sweep in the 200-individual medley (2:05.19). True freshman Becca Evans blazed to a 23.57 to win the 50-yard freestyle over 32 other competitors.
The Rice Fall Invitational concludes Saturday (Oct. 13) with 13 events over two sessions, beginning at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday's event schedule is as follows.
