Golf Takes Sixth at Sam Hall Intercollegiate

Final Results
Hattiesburg, Miss. — Rice shot a one-over par 285 to finish in sixth-place at the season-opening Sam Hall Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 6,902 yard Hattiesburg Country Club.
"The guys played well today," said head coach Justin Emil. "They got better each round while the conditions got tougher. I think we'll leave here with a lot of positives and some good things to work on back in Houston."
Senior Mitchell Meissner tied for 13th-place at two-over par after carding a final round 72. It is his eighth career top-20 finish. Senior Mario Carmona tied for 22nd-place at four-over par after posted an even-par 71. The 71 is his 30th round of par or better.
Sophomore Nicholas Duggan tied for 25th-place at five-over par after posting a 70, his eighth career round of par or better.
Freshmen Rishi Kejriwal and Jake Benson, playing in their first career tournaments, both posted a final round 72 to finish eight and 14-over par 37th and 51st-place ties. Junior Grant Rogers tied for 54th-place after shooting a 73 to finish 15-over par.
Sam Houston State won the tournament at five-over par, defeating UT-Arlington in a playoff. Missouri State's Brad Carpenter earned medalist honors at two-under par, one stroke in front of Mercer's Stanton Schorr and UTSA's Zander Lozano.
Rice returns to the links next week, Sept. 22-24, when it travels to Scottsdale, Ariz., for the Maui Jim Invitational.
