Pinehurst, N.C. — After coming back from two holes down with four to play, Mario Carmona and Mitchell Meissner fell to Jordan Andrus and Chad Johnson, 1 Up, in 20 holes, Monday in the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, played at Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.
Carmona and Meissner began the match by immediately dropping the first hole. It stayed that way for the next four holes. The teams then traded wins in the next three holes and stayed all square at the turn.
The Rice teammates grabbed their first lead of the match after birdieing the 10th hole. However, Andrus and Johnson won the three of the next four holes to take a 2 up lead with four holes to play.
But, Carmona and Meissner were not done. The duo won the next two holes to even the match with two holes to play. But, the teams stayed all-square after 18 holes to send the match to extra holes.
The teams traded pars on the first playoff hole to send it to a second, but Andrus and Johnson birdied the second playoff hole to take the match.
