Golf Closes Regular Season at Jim West Intercollegiate

HOUSTON — Rice closes the regular season this Monday-Tuesday, April 10-11, when it travels to Bastrop for the Jim West Intercollegiate. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 7,205-yard Wolfdancer Golf Club.
"Coming off a solid final round at the Old Waverly Intercollegiate, the team is carrying some momentum this week into the Jim West Intercollegiate," said head coach Justin Emil. "I'm really looking forward to seeing them compete this week."
Rice will be joined by Incarnate Word, Louisiana-Lafayette, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, St. Edward's, Stephen F. Austin, host Texas State, UT-Arlington and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
Junior Mario Carmona leads the Owls in the No. 1 position. The Houston, Texas native leads the squad with a 72.39 stroke average. He has recorded one top five and three top ten finishes while leading the squad with 13 rounds of par or better.
In the No. 2 position is freshman Trevor Brown. The Austin, Texas native holds a 72.89 stroke average on the year and is second on the team with 11 rounds of par or better.
Junior Mitchell Meissner will tee off in the No. 3 position as the defending tournament champion. He is second on the team with a 72.53 stroke average while leading the squad with four top 20 finishes this year, including a 17th-place tie at last week's Old Waverly Intercollegiate.
Freshman Nicholas Duggan and sophomore Grant Rogers will tee off in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Duggan is averaging 75.30 strokes per round while Rogers is averaging 75.50 strokes.
Play begins at 8:30 a.m. CT on Monday with a shotgun start. Rice will tee off from holes 1-4 and will be paired with Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin. Fans can follow all the action at birdiefire.com.
