
Golf Earns Ninth-Place Finish at Conference USA Championship

Texarkana, Ark. -- Rice finished 41-over par to earn ninth-place at the Conference USA Championship, played at the par-72, 6,969-yard Texarkana Country Club.
Rice finished with rounds of 308-298. The final round 298 tied for the lowest final round of the day.
"I'm really proud of Mario (Carmona) for finishing the season with back-to-back top 10 finishes," said head coach Justin Emil. "The guys fought hard all day today. Our goal this week was to always be in the fight to do our best on each individual shot. Our final round today was tied for the lowest final round and that shows how the team fought all the way to the end. I'm proud of this team how they handled themselves."
Junior Mario Carmona tied for seventh-place at four-over par after closing with a 74-72. It is his fifth top-ten finish of the year and the seventh in his career. The 72 is also the team-leading 16th of the season and the 29th of his career.
Freshman Trevor Brown finished five-over par after posting a 76-72 to finish in a career-best tie for 12th-place. The 72 is his 12th round of par or better this season.
Freshman Nicholas Duggan shot 78-77 to finish 15-over par in 38th-place. Sophomore Grant Rogers tied for 42nd-place at 17-over par after closing with rounds of 80-77 and junior Mitchell Meissner tied for 57th-place at 24-over par after finishing with an 82-81.
Charlotte's Seth Gandy earned medalist honors at two-under par, two strokes in front of UAB's Taylor Eyster and Cory Churchman of North Texas.
UTEP finished first in the team competition after stroke play. The Miners, North Texas, and Charlotte advance to match play. Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss will play a playoff to decide the final team.
