San Antonio, Texas — Rice shot a final round 287 to finish 10-over par in 13th-place at the Lone Star Invitational, played at the par-72, 7,247-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
The 287 is the squad's sixth round of par or better this year.
"We learned a lot this week playing together all three rounds as the format called for each team to play together as one group," said Rice head coach Justin Emil." Trevor (Brown) had another good event even though he didn't have his ‘A' game. Mario (Carmona) hit a lot of good shots but had trouble getting the putts to fall. Grant (Rogers) played pretty solid except for one hole where he got a bad break late yesterday and Nick is really starting to find his swing and played a great round for us today."
Freshman Trevor Brown led the Owls in a tie for 30th-place at one-under par after closing with a 71. It is also his 11th round of par or better this year.
Junior Mario Carmona tied for 45th-place at three-over par after carding a 74. Freshman Nick Duggan and sophomore Grant Rogers tied for 51st-place at four-over par. Duggan fired a 70 his fourth round of par or better this year. Rogers tied his career-low 72, his second round of par or better this year. His 54-hole score of 220 is also a career-best.
Senior Kevin Reilly carded a 75 to tie for 69th-place at 11-over par.
Oklahoma won the team competition at 40-under par, four strokes in front of second-place Illinois. Oklahoma's Max McGreevy earned medalist honors at 20-under par, six strokes ahead of Illinois' Dylan Meyer and Mississippi State's Tanapat Pichaikool.
Rice returns to the links next Monday-Tuesday, Mar. 27-28, when it travels to Little Rock, Ark., for the Little Rock Intercollegiate.
