Golf Ties for 17th at Border Olympics

Final Results
Laredo, Texas — Rice tied for 17th-place at the rain-shortened Border Olympics, played at the par-72, 7,204 Laredo Country Club.
Rice finished 18-over par, opening with a 295 before carding a final round 299.
"We were pretty disappointed leaving Laredo, but there is still a lot of golf left to play," said head coach Justin Emil. "We have a little time to rest and get ready for the Lone Star Invitational."
Junior Mario Carmona tied for 27th-place at even par to lead the Owls. He opened with a four-under par 68 before finishing with a 76. The 68 was his team-leading 11th round of par or better this year and the 24th of his career. It was also his fourth round in the 60's this year and the eighth of his career.
Freshman Trevor Brown tied for 46th-place at two over par. He opened with a 74 but closed the tournament with an even par 72. It is his ninth round of par or better his year.
Sophomore Grant Rogers posted rounds of 75 and 78 to tie for 87th-place at nine-over par. Senior Kevin Reilly and freshman Nicholas Duggan finished 10-over par to tie for 90th-pace. Reilly posted rounds of 75-79 while Duggan carded a 78-76.
Rice returns to the links next week, Mar. 20-21, when it travels to San Antonio for the Lone Star Invitational.
