HOUSTON -- Rice men's golf coach Justin Emil has announced the signings of Campbell Gibson (Dundee, Scotland) and Harrison Hineline (Boerne, Texas) to national letters of intent for the 2018-19 school year, Thursday morning.
Gibson, from Glenalmond College in Dundee, Scotland, averaged 73.10 strokes in his senior season, where he graduated in the spring of 2017. He earned four top-five finishes in the Scottish National events. Gibson was the 2017 Perth and Kinross County Schools champion while tying for third-place at the 2016 St. Andrew's Championship.
Added Emil, "We are delighted to bring in a student and golfer of Campbell's caliber. He has experience competing for his native country on their national boys squad, which will be valuable as he joins with our team. Campbell is a great fit for Rice both academically and athletically."
Hineline is averaging 72.25 strokes per round on the America Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Tour. He also qualified for the 2017 U.S. Open Sectional with a score of two-under 70.
"I've watched Harrison develop into one of the top junior players in Texas," said Emil. "He has the confidence and belief in himself that not only will benefit him as a player, but also positively affect his future teammates at Rice. He is a determined young man and that will show up both in the classroom and on the course."
