
McDaniel, Morgan Earn C-USA Weekly Honors

HOUSTON - For the second time in the last three weeks, Rice senior setter Madison McDaniel was named the Conference USA Setter of the Week while sophomore teammate Grace Morgan earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (10/23).
McDaniel, from the Woodlands, Texas, played a big role in helping the Owls run their season-high win streak to eight straight matches by totaling 85 assists, 36 digs and 11.0 blocks over 10 sets. After recording her seventh double-double (40 assists/19 digs) of the season on Friday versus UTSA, McDaniel accomplished her eighth double-double two days later with a 45 assists-17 digs performance in the Owls 3-2 win over UTEP. In addition, McDaniel recorded her 3,000th career assists over the weekend, moving into sixth place in Rice history. The award is McDaniel's second of her career.
Morgan earned her third overall C-USA weekly award of the season, and second Defensive Player of the Week, with a pair of dominating performances at the net this past weekend. She totaled 23.0 blocks over 10 sets (2.3 per set), including a career-high 13-block performance in the Owls five-set win over UTSA on Friday. The 13 blocks ranked second in Rice history for blocks in a single match. The Crowley, La. native posted another 10.0 blocks in Rice's 3-2 win over UTEP. In addition to the blocks, Morgan totaled 28 kills while hitting .361 for the weekend. Morgan ranks second in C-USA in total blocks (58) and blocks per set (1.45) during league play.
The Owls will try to continue their winning ways this Friday, Oct. 27 when they travel to Denton, Texas to face the North Texas Mean Green at 7 p.m.
