HOUSTON -- The Rice golf team earned President's Special Recognition Team honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America, the organization announced.
A total of 24 Division I teams received President's Special Recognition status for having team GPAs of 3.5 or better. The 41 teams through all divisions to earn this distinction are the most since the Academic Team Awards program began in 2009.
In addition to earning the honor, Rice placed eight golfers on the Commissioner's Honor Roll this spring, with James Lee, Mitchell Meissner and Grant Rogers claiming C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medals. Lee was also named a GCAA Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar last week.
From C-USA, Middle Tennessee also posted a grade point average at 3.0 or better to earn All-Academic honors. Valparaiso was named the Academic National Champion.
