IRVING, Texas — Junior swimmer Jaecey Parham was named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Parham won one individual event and swam on five winning relays to help the Owls claim the team title of the program's home Rice Invitational over the weekend. She won the 200-individual medley over a starting field of 28 competitors with a time of 2:04.72. She was also second among 21 entries in the 100-butterly with a 57.05, before taking third place out of 26 swimmers in the 100-freestyle with a season-best mark of 52.58.
Though she swam as a non-scoring exhibition entry in the 100-backstroke, Parham still posted a steady 58.65 that was the meet's fifth-fastest time overall. The native of Lubbock, Texas, was also a member of all of Rice's five winning relays, including the anchor of the freestyle relays and the butterfly leg of both medleys. The Owls' 800-free relay notched a new season-best time at the Invitational with a mark of 7:41.56.
This is Parham's first career weekly award.
