IRVING, Texas – Rice's Marie-Claire Schillinger has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for Oct. 25-31, the league office announced Tuesday (Nov. 1) from its headquarters in Irving, Texas.
Schillinger won a total of three individual events, and swam on a winning Owl relay, while competing in two different dual meets on Oct. 28-29. She won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.57 in a C-USA dual meet at North Texas to help push the Owls past the Mean Green in the team scoring. The native of Orinda, Calif., then swept both breaststroke events in a meet at nationally-ranked SMU with times of 1:04.03 in the 100 and 2:19.30 in the 200. In addition to swimming the second leg on Rice's winning 200-medley at SMU, she also competed on the 400-free relay and in the 200-IM.
As a true freshman last season Schillinger won two C-USA individual titles in the breaststroke on the way to representing Rice and the conference in the U.S. Olympic Trials. This is Schillinger's second C-USA weekly award of this season, and the third of her collegiate career.
