Golf to Close Fall Slate at Steelwood Collegiate Invitational

HOUSTON -- Rice will close out its fall season this weekend when it travels to Loxley, Ala., for the inaugural Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, Oct, 29-30 and played at the par-72, 7,096 yard Steelwood Country Club.
South Alabama will host the inaugural event.
"We have a great opportunity to close out our fall season at the Steelwood Collegiate," said head coach Justin Emil. "All fall we have been really close and after a few weeks at home we are fresh and ready to go."
Rice will be joined by five teams in the latest Golfstat top 100, including No. 31 Kennesaw State, No. 42 Kentucky, No. 72 USF, No. 76 Cincinnati and No. 84 South Alabama.
Also in the field are DePaul, Lamar, Richmond, Southern Miss and WKU.
Junior Mario Carmona leads the Owls in the No. 1 position. The Houston, Texas native leads the squad with a 71.22 stroke average and is coming off his second straight top-10 finish, tying for eighth-place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
In the No. 2 position is junior Mitchell Meissner. The San Antonio, Texas native is averaging 72.78 strokes per round and has three rounds of par or better.
Senior Kevin Reilly will tee off in the No. 3 position. Reilly is second on the team averaging 72.44 strokes per round this year and has two rounds of par or better.
Freshmen Trevor Brown and Nicholas Duggan will tee off in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. They are both averaging 72.89 strokes this year. Brown has three rounds of par or better while Duggan has two.
Play begins at 8:30 a.m. CT. Rice is partnered with Cincinnati and Kennesaw State. Fans can follow all the action at golfstat.com.
