IRVING, Texas – Rice's Marie-Claire Schillinger has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for Oct. 4-10, the league office announced Tuesday (Oct. 11) from its headquarters in Irving, Texas.
Schillinger posted a banner weekend as she won a pair of individual events and swam on a winning relay to pace the Owl Swimmers in the Missouri State Shootout. The sophomore swept both breaststroke events, taking the 100-yard event with a 1:02.90 and the 200 with a dazzling 2:14.90 that provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships next spring. She also swam the third leg of the Owl's winning 200-freestyle relay (1:34.47).
As a true freshman last season Schillinger won two C-USA individual titles in the breaststroke on the way to representing Rice and the conference in the U.S. Olympic Trials. This is the second C-USA weekly award of Schillinger's career.
