Golf Earns Team Academic Award from GCAA

HOUSTON—A week after a pair of golfers earned All-America Scholar honors, the Rice golf team earned All-Academic Team honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to earning the honor, Rice placed six golfers on the Commissioner's Honor Roll this spring, with Mario Carmona, Trey Johnson, James Lee and Mitchell Meissner claiming C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medals. Tommy Economou and Lee were also named GCAA Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars last week.
From C-USA, Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, and Old Dominion also posted grade point averages at 3.0 or better to earn the honor. Harvard was named the Academic National Champion.
Rice opens the 2015 fall season Sept. 14-15 in Hattiesburg, Miss., at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
