
Owls Finish Conference USA Championship in 12th

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Rice University men's golf completed its Conference USA Championship run with a 12th-place finish on Tuesday. The Owls wrapped up the event with a 297-302-303--902 (+38) as the team's reign as league champion came to a close at Texarkana Country Club.
The top four teams from stroke play advance to Wednesday's match play to determine the 2015 C-USA winner. In the semifinals, top-seeded North Texas faces Charlotte and second seed UAB takes on UTEP. The winners will face off in the final round. The Mean Green took the stroke play competition by seven strokes with an 861 (-3).
NT's Juan Munoz claimed the individual medal for the event with a 211 (-5), two strokes ahead of USM's Casey Fernandez.
For Rice, sophomore Alex Levy paced the Owls in 32nd place with a 73-75-76--224 (+8). He notched 13 pars and one birdie on Tuesday and finished the event with six total birdies.
In his first C-USA Championship experience, freshman Mitchell Meissner carded a 75-74-76--225 (+9). The rookie placed 35th overall and notched three of his six birdies in the final round. His other three came in Monday's second round and his 33 pars ranked fourth in the field.
Tommy Economou sank three of his eight birdies on Tuesday to card a 75-77-74--226 (+10), good for 44th place. The senior notched four birdies in the opening round, but made use of 12 pars in the finale to post his best round of the tournament.
James Lee followed with a 74-76-78--228 (+12) to take 47th place. The junior also holed three of his eight birdies in Tuesday's round to accompany seven pars. He tallied five birdies on par-5 holes and two more on par-3s.
Sophomore Kevin Reilly rounded out the squad in 61st place with a 75-81-76--232 (+16). He notched one of his four birdies in Tuesday's final round to accompany 12 pars. He finished the event with 34 pars on 54 holes.
The Owls tied Florida Atlantic for 12th and finished just one stroke behind 11th-place Western Kentucky.
The NCAA Tournament selection show is set for May 4 at 10 a.m. and will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel.
