
Owls Wrap Up Lone Star Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Rice University men's golf concluded the Lone Star Invitational on Tuesday in 14th place with a 296-288-293--877 (+13) at the par-72, 7,247-yard Briggs Ranch Country Club.
Senior Tommy Economou led the Owls at the event with his best 54-hole score of the season, a 74-68-73--215 (-1). He claimed 25th place overall, including 10 birdies. His second-round score was a career low and he notched two birdies with 14 pars in the final round.
James Lee followed in 55th place with a 72-72-78--222 (+6). The junior notched an eagle and all five of his birdies on Monday and tallied 12 pars in Tuesday's round.
Freshman Mitchell Meissner placed one stroke back in 59th place. The rookie notched a 76-76-71--223 (+7), as he matched his low round of 71 in the third round that included four of his nine birdies.
Kevin Reilly posted a 74-74-76--224 (+8) to finish 67th. The sophomore became the third Owl to card an eagle at the event as he did so on his last hole of the tournament, the par-five 13th. He added eight birdies over the two-day tournament.
Alex Levy improved each round with a 79-74-73--226 (+10) to tie for 70th place. The sophomore carded a pair of birdies in each of the three rounds.
Competing as an individual, Joe Beck III tied for 73rd place with a 75-76-76--227 (+11). The senior finished with seven birdies and a first-round eagle.
No. 6 Texas Tech claimed the team title with an 835 (-29), 11 strokes ahead of No. 38 Southeastern Louisiana.
Hannes Ronneblad (Texas Tech) defeated Zander Lozano (UTSA) on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff for the individual title. The pair carded a 207 (-9) in regulation.
Up next for the Owls is the Jim West Intercollegiate on April 6-7. The event tees off at Austin's Wolfdancer Golf Club.
