Golf Closes Fall Schedule at Kiawah Classic

HOUSTON—The Rice men's golf team will close its fall schedule this week when it travels to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the Kiawah Classic, hosted by Charleston Southern and played at the par 72, 7,100-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
Joining the Owls in the tournament are Augusta, host Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Duke, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Monroe, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, Missouri, Newberry, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, USC-Upstate, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Winthrop.
"This is a great scenario for our team," said head coach Justin Emil. "Being able to get right back out there is really good for a team like ours that is really close to a breakout performance."
Mario Carmona will lead the Owls in the No. 1 position. The Houston, Texas, native leads the team with a 72.67 stroke average and is coming off his second straight top-20 finish at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate.
James Lee will tee off in the No. 2 position. The senior is second on the team averaging 74.11 strokes per round. In the No. 3 position will be Kevin Reilly. The junior is averaging 74.33 strokes per round.
Freshman Will Voetsch will tee off in the No. 4 position and is averaging 74.56 strokes. He had a career-best 34th-place tie at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate. Jay Burlison is averaging 74.50 strokes per round and will tee off in the No. 5 position.
Senior Trey Johnson will participate as an individual. He comes into the tournament averaging 77.11 strokes.
