IRVING, Texas - Rice senior Casey Clark has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for Nov. 18-24, the league office announced Tuesday (Nov. 25) from its headquarters in Irving, Texas.
Last weekend at the three-day Phill Hansel Invitational in Pearland, Texas, Clark won five individual events, swam on five winning relays, made six NCAA individual provisional marks, and set two school records to lead the Owl swimmers to the meet's team title. Clark won the 100-freestyle with a NCAA B cut time of 49.26 to break a 12-year old Rice record. She won the 200-free (1:46.95), the 100-butterfly (53.02), 200-fly (1:58.46) and 200-individual medley (2:00.80) - all of which are NCAA provisional marks. The Spring, Texas, native also won the meet's consolation final of the 100-backstroke with a B cut time of 54.45 to break the Rice school record. Clark was also a member of all five winning Owl relays that posted the best respective time in Conference USA so far this season.
This is the first C-USA Swimmer of the Week honor for Clark this season, and the sixth of her collegiate career. Rice's Erin Flanigan earned the C-USA honor on Oct. 21. The Owl swimmers are next in action on Dec. 6 in a dual meet against longtime rival Texas A&M. The Aggies are the No. 2 ranked team in the nation according to CollegeSwimming.com.
