Head coach Justin Emil said, "We let the difficulty of the golf course get the best of us today. It was pretty tough out there, but I expect better results from this team. Tomorrow we are going to go out and compete despite the conditions.
James Lee paced the group with a 75-80—155 (+11), good for 28th place. All four of his birdies came in the opening round.
Senior Tommy Economou followed in 43rd place at 78-81—159 (+15). Both of his birdies came early in the day's opening round.
Tying in 47th, Mario Carmona posted an 81-79—160 (+16). He also holed a pair of birdies on the day, with the two coming on consecutive holes on the second round's back nine.
Kevin Reilly matched the freshman with an 83-77—160 (+16). The sophomore tallied his lone birdie on the par-four fourth hole during the second round.
Freshman Mitchell Meissner rounded out the group with an 84-78—162 (+18) to stand in 55th place through 36 holes. He tallied a pair of birdies in his stronger second round of the day.
Competing individually, Joe Beck III ranks 41st with an 80-78—158 (+14). The senior matched the team lead with four birdies, two in each round.
Host LSU and Southeastern Louisiana stand in a tie for first place at 596 (+20). Winthrop stands in third, 15 strokes back.
LSU's Benjamin Taylor leads the field with a 143 (-1), three strokes ahead of teammate Zach Wright.
Sunday's final round tees off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
