
Golf Places 13th in Fall Finale

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Rice University men's golf posted a 292-290-293--875 (+11) at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday to conclude the team's fall slate of tournament action. The Owls claimed 13th place and led the field with 179 pars over the 54-hole event.
For the third time in the team's five outings this fall, Kevin Reilly paced the squad. The sophomore tallied a 69-73-74--216 (E) to claim 23rd place. He notched four of his nine birdies during the second round on Monday afternoon.
Freshman Mario Carmona and senior Tommy Economou tied for 32nd place, just two strokes behind Reilly. Carmona posted a 73-72-73--218 (+2) while Economou carded a 75-71-72--218 (+2). The senior holed a pair of eagles during the second round and followed up with four of his six birdies in Tuesday's final round. Five of Carmona's 10 birdies came in the opening 18 holes.
Junior James Lee claimed 54th place with a 75-74-74--223 (+7) with six total birdies. Senior Joe Beck III finished 67th with a 75-75-77--227 (+11), including six birdies of his own with three coming in the final round.
North Florida claimed the team title with an 840 (-24), six strokes ahead of second-place Tennessee. Rice placed just one stroke back of Connecticut and two back of 11th-place Bowling Green.
Kentucky's Tyler McDaniel and Tennessee's Jack Smith tied to take home the individual medal at 205 (-11).
Rice now takes a break from tournament play. The Owls are set to return to action on Feb. 9-10, 2015 at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio. It is the first of six regular season events leading into the Conference USA Championship on April 26-29 in Texarkana, Ark.
